What to Do Until We Arrive

A few simple steps keep a bad situation from getting worse:

• Stop pressing the button. Running the opener against a broken spring or cable can damage the opener and the door.
• Don't lift a door with a broken spring by hand. It's carrying its full weight and can drop hard.
• Keep people, pets and cars clear of a door that is stuck partway or hanging crooked.
• If the springs are intact and the door is stuck open, you can usually pull the red release cord and close it by hand.
• If the door won't close and can't be moved safely, lock the door between the garage and the house until we get there.

Securing Your Home When the Door Won't Close

An open garage is an open door into your home. If a repair can't be finished on the spot, usually because a matching section or a new door has to be ordered, we make the door safe and secure the opening before we leave.

If the door is too damaged to save, for example after a car backs into it, we can measure for a replacement on the same visit and schedule the installation as soon as the new door arrives.
